Composite Fillings in Livermore, CA

Make an Appointment
There are a variety of filler materials available, each with its own set of benefits and drawbacks. At your periodic checkup, we will explain the best options for repairing your teeth. Today, composite fillings are the most popular. Composite fillings are more aesthetically suitable for usage in front teeth or more visible portions of the mouth because they can be carefully matched to the color of existing teeth.

How is a filling placed?

Fillings are typically done in one visit. Your dentist will remove any decay or fractures while the tooth is numb. Before the new infill is installed, the area will be thoroughly cleaned and prepared. If the decay is close to the tooth's nerve, a specific medicine will be used to provide additional protection.

The filling will then be precisely inserted, contoured, and polished, restoring the shape and function of your tooth. When composite fillings are first done, you may suffer sensitivity to warmth and cold, but this will fade quickly as your tooth adjusts to the new filling.

After your treatment, you will be given care instructions. Your new fillings will last longer if you practice good oral care, eat well, and visit the dentist regularly.

Types of Dental Fillings

Amalgam Fillings

Dental amalgam is a dental filling used to treat cavities caused by tooth decay. Dental amalgam is a metal mixture of liquid (elemental) mercury and powdered silver. Dental amalgams are long-lasting and cost-effective, used for over a century.

Composite Fillings

A composite (tooth-colored) filling is an aesthetically pleasing alternative to silver fillings. However, composite fillings are more delicate and may need to be replaced at some point. They will provide you with a gorgeous smile for many years with proper care.

Ceramic Fillings

Dental porcelain and ceramics make ceramic fillings of the highest quality. These tooth-colored fillings are the most stain- and wear-resistant alternative in the tooth-colored fillings category, providing durable, appealing, and long-lasting results.

What to Expect After Your Appointment

It's critical to remember the following immediately following the insertion of a new filling:

When the anesthetic wears off:

You may have a period of persistent numbness following your dental visit. Within an hour or two, the normal sensation should return.

However, until the anesthetic wears off entirely, it's critical to avoid accidentally biting or harming your lips, cheeks, gums, or tongue. When eating, drinking hot liquids, or smoking, be cautious.

Short-term sensitivity:

It's normal for a tooth to feel a bit sensitive after a filling has been placed. When you eat cold or hot meals and beverages, you may feel a twinge. Within a few days, the sensitivity should go away on its own.

Filling aftercare:

Our practice uses the most up-to-date generations of solid and long-lasting filler materials. Your new filling should survive for many years with proper oral hygiene and routine care.

Even the best fillings may need to be replaced, or extra dental work may be required in cases of severe tooth decay or harm to the underlying tooth.

3- Do not bite hard or chew on silver amalgam fillings for 24 hours.

4- You may experience cold and heat sensitivity and some gum soreness; this usually subsides within a few days.

5- Call our office if you experience pain or discomfort for more than a few days after the fillings, or if you have any questions.
