Dental crowns are cap-shaped restorations custom-fit over a broken tooth to restore its shape and size while also preserving it from additional decay or injury. They help protect dental implants, bridges, and damaged teeth from getting worse.
Porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal, ceramic, gold, and other metals can be used to create crowns. Your dental crown is custom-made to match your original teeth' appearance, feel, and function.
Our staff must file your teeth and remove a part of the enamel – more if rot is present to make room for the dental crown. We then take imprints of your mouth to use as a template for the crown.
The crown construction procedure takes at least a few weeks, and you must wear a temporary crown throughout that period. At your second consultation, our experts will remove the temporary crown and replace it with your permanent restoration.
Once you're satisfied with the results, our team cements the crown in place and makes minor tweaks if necessary. Dental crowns can last up to eight years if adequately cared for.
A dental bridge is a tooth replacement device that has a natural appearance. This restoration, similar to an architectural bridge, uses abutments (supporting teeth) to keep the prosthetic tooth in the middle in place. Bridges are divided into three general categories:
Our team files and removes a small amount of enamel from your abutment teeth to make way for durable dental crowns once you've decided on the perfect bridge for your smile. He next creates your abutment crowns and fake teeth by taking imprints of your mouth.
Our experts may be able to fit you for a temporary bridge because the bridge construction process takes at least two weeks. This bridge will be removed and replaced with a permanent alternative at your next appointment.
Our staff cements the bridge in place and makes minor changes as needed to restore function to your bite, similar to how a dental crown is placed.

Crowns and bridges typically require two or three visits to complete. During the initial visit, we prepare your tooth or teeth, take impressions, and fit you with a temporary crown. You might experience some sensitivity, gum soreness, or mild discomfort, but this should subside once the permanent crown is placed.
After receiving anesthesia, it's important to avoid chewing until the numbness fades. Temporary crowns, often made of plastic or soft metal, can be fragile and may dislodge. If this happens, save the crown and contact our office immediately. To protect your temporary crown, avoid sticky or hard foods and try to chew on the opposite side.
Maintain your usual brushing routine but be cautious when flossing around the temporary crown. If flossing is difficult, wait until the permanent crown is in place. After the final restoration, you may feel slight pressure or an uneven bite for a few days. If discomfort persists beyond a few days or you have any pain, please call our office for an adjustment. We're here to help with any concerns or questions you may have.
